West Brom over Stoke or Everton makes sense for Marseille attacker
Published:Jordan Ayew’s contribution to Marseille this season, aside from a consolation penalty against Arsenal in the Champions League, has been minimal and a spell out on loan to provide greater first-team opportunities could be what his stalling career is in need of.
There has been no shortage of Premier League interest in the 22-year-old either, with Stoke and Everton considered to be towards the front of the queue.
However, it is the reports linking him with West Brom that seem the most interesting and it is the Baggies where Ayew may have the greater chance of flourishing.
What Ayew’s best position is does create some confusion, with a spot in the wider areas where he is able to run at defenders arguably most suited.
West Brom are not blessed with an abundance of wingers, with the emergence of Saido Berahino a big positive to their attacking plans.
He, Stephane Sessegnon and Morgan Amalfitano have all taken up advanced positions behind the striker and Ayew would offer another option in this regard.
What Ayew will add is an ability with both feet that makes him versatile to start from either flank, while the fact he has led the line before boosts his ability to bring others into play.
Meanwhile, the majority of West Brom’s key passes this season have come from central areas and so some greater creativity from the flanks could add another string to their attacking bow.
A loan move in January would do West Brom no harm in their pursuit of a second successive top 10 Premier League finish, which can currently be backed at 13/8.
Alternatively, it is 4/9 that the Baggies finish in the bottom half of the top-flight standings.
