Argentina far and away the best bet of international football weekend
Published:Ecuador may have qualified for the next World Cup, but the big negative to their chances of reaching the latter stages of that tournament, as well as getting a result in their upcoming friendly with Argentina, is their poor away record.
Although not close to the away struggles of European nations like San Marino, Ecuador have only won one of 10 away from home, losing three of their last four.
This is in comparison to winning 12 of their last 15 at home, where the high altitude tends to give them that extra bit of an advantage.
Their away record against Argentina is especially pitiable, as they have never beaten their fellow South Americans outside of Ecuador.
Given that they face Argentina in New Jersey, the chances of an Ecuador victory look especially slim and so they should be opposed at 21/5.
Argentina may well be without an injured Lionel Messi, but with the likes of Sergio Aguero and Gonzalo Higuain in the squad, goals should not be too hard to come by for a team that have netted at least twice in their five outings since drawing in Ecuador in June.
It is 8/13 that Argentina beat Ecuador at the MetLife Stadium and backing any other outcome must be regarded as a foolish strategy.
Argentina have also scored in the first 30 minutes in their last six fixtures, which suggests that the 11/10 that they are ahead at both half-time and full-time is a fair price, especially as Ecuador have conceded first in their last four away days.
The 9/4 on the opening 45 minutes seeing more goals than the second period is another price worthy of consideration, alongside the 21/20 that Argentina are the first team to score in the opening half.
