Martin Jol is the clear favourite to be the next casualty

Martin Jol was favourite to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post before the defeat to Liverpool, but the 4-0 deficit places him in an extremely vulnerable position and as a result is priced at 2/5 to be the next manager to leave.

Following this loss, Fulham find themselves hovering just one point above the relegation zone.

Yet it is the manner of defeat that is of major cause for concern. For the second week running, the Cottagers were three goals down at half-time.

Jol’s own behaviour in the post-match interview has also cast further doubts on his future. The manager remained calm and considered yet offered little passion or fight to appease the disgruntled fans.

Although Chris Hughton has also found himself under increasing pressure at Norwich, their 3-1 defeat of West Ham looks to have bought him some time, a fact reflected in his 4/1 price.

Malky MacKay’s position at Cardiff looks to be untenable in the long term as owner Vincent Tan seems intent on pushing through his own ideas. Although the 4/1 price is a tempting offer, the Bluebirds are sitting safely in 12th position making an imminent exit unlikely.

Apart from their win at bottom side Crystal Palace almost three weeks ago, Fulham have failed to win since August 17th, a victory against Sunderland.

Jol’s Fulham seem incapable of beating many sides in the division and it seems unlikely he will be given many more opportunities. Fulham have only started the season as poorly as this once before since promotion in 2001. That was two years ago and once again under the stewardship of Jol.

Although he was given the time to turn that around, it is doubtful he will be awarded the same luxury this time.
