NFL: Handicap value on Redskins, Panthers and Saints

Published:

With the NFL regular season now at the half-way stage the conference standings are starting to take shape, with teams’ positions now carrying real weight after eight games.

As such, Ladbrokes has picked out three teams perfectly poised for wins this weekend.

Washington Redskins (-2.5) to beat Minnesota Vikings @ 10/11

Washington’s form may not be the most inspiring, with the Redskins 3-5 for the season, but confidence boosters don’t come much bigger than Minnesota at present.

The Vikings are 1-7 for the season, having lost four in a row, and cannot even count on solid home form to turn things around.

Leslie Frazer’s side are 8-4 in their last 12 at home and have lost on five of the last six occasions when Washington have travelled to the Metrodome.

Therefore,  10/11 at -2.5 certainly appeals, especially when all three of the Redskins’ victories this term have been by a winning margin of four points or more.

Carolina Panthers (+6) to beat San Francisco 49ers @ 10/11

Two of the league’s form teams meet at Candlestick Park but at +6 it is Carolina who offer more appeal than hosts San Francisco.

The Panthers are 5-3 for the season and are now on a four-game win streak. The 49ers go one better with their five-game run but Ron Rivera’s men boast a strong head-to-head record against the Californian outfit.

Carolina are 7-2 in their last nine meetings with San Francisco and the narrow margins by which they have lost this season (five, one and six points)make them hard to oppose here.

New Orleans Saints (-7) to beat Dallas Cowboys @ 10/11

The Mercedes-Benz Superdome hasn’t been the happiest hunting ground for Dallas in recent years, with the Cowboys winning just one of the last seven meetings with New Orleans. And given the Saints’ form another defeat for Jason Garrett’s men looks likely here, even at +7.

Dallas are 5-4 for the season so far and while Sean Payton’s Saints lost last time out they are still 6-2 and have looked impressive when winning this term.

All of New Orleans’ last four victories have come by more than seven points and with Sean Lee the only ray of light in a weak Cowboys’ defence, expect the Saints to overcome this handicap.
