Tendulkar 5/1 to bow out of cricket on 16,000 Test runs

Six boundaries in 73 balls helped move Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar onto 38 not out after day one of his final ever Test match against West Indies, leading Ladbrokes to offer 5/1 that the Little Master makes it to 16,000 Test runs for his career before bowing out in Mumbai.

Another 115 runs in the match would take Tendulkar to truly magical career figures of 16,000 Test runs.

Judging by the confident manner in which the great man came out to bat in, this eventuality is a very real possibility.

After two Indian wickets had fallen in just one over, the highest ever runscorer in Test cricket came to the crease to a truly rapturous reception from his home crowd at the Wankhede Stadium.

But rather than look overawed, Tendulkar oozed class and set about forging an unbroken stand of 80 alongside Cheteshwar Pujara, executing some textbook shots in the process.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “It has been vintage Tendulkar thus far and punters would love to see Sachin bow out on 16,000 runs, he’s been heavily backed in-play for a ton, but now they’re hoping for a few more on top of that.”

Meanwhile, the same odds of 5/1 are on offer for Sachin to be given out LBW or to take a wicket in the match.

After swishing his way to half a dozen boundaries on the opening day, Ladbrokes also offer a shorter price of 7/4 that he smashes one all the way for six during the match.

Finally, India’s pin-up of the last 20 years is 1/1 to take a catch during West Indies’ second innings and he’s 12/1 to be his national team’s head coach by the year 2020.
