Atletico Madrid set to take another Chelsea Belgian on loan

With Belgium hotly fancied to conquer the world in Brazil next summer, a feat Ladbrokes give a 14/1 chance to, the clamour to take those hoping to make the plane but finding playing time limited at their clubs is increasing by the day.

Chelsea own their fair share of players from the waffle-making capital of the world, but most of the contingent are already being borrowed by various clubs around Europe. However, one whose role is growing more fringe-like by the day is Kevin De Bruyne.

Having started two of the first three league games this season the winger has since been restricted to just two starts in the Capital One Cup and, with his place in Brazil at stake, is set to be rescued by a loan move to Atletico Madrid in the New Year.

A change of scenery for the strawberry-blonde Belgian looks inevitable considering his manager took to the media to question the player’s attitude earlier in the campaign and has limited his involvement ever since.

Even compatriot Eden Hazard has urged the former Werder Bremen loanee to seek playing time elsewhere in order to save his World Cup hopes and Atletico Madrid seems a perfect destination.

The club are thought to be keen to add a middle-band-roamer with more creativity in his game after the long-awaited arrival of Diego Ribas from injury stalled.

With fellow Belgians Thibaut Courtois, also on loan from the Stamford Bridge side, and Toby Alderweireld in the ranks, De Bruyne should take no time settling.

Claims from Spanish newspaper AS that the Chelsea youngster was in Madrid recently to discuss the move, along with Alderweireld’s gushing over the potential arrival to the press, indicate that the 9/1 shots to win La Liga look certain to get their man.
