Lewis will cruise through whilst Wade is set to struggle again

Alexandra Palace opens its doors for the eleventh night of the Ladbrokes Darts World Championship and our news team has previewed the best of the evening’s action, with the treble below paying just under 6/1.

Andy Smith (+2.5 sets) to beat James Wade @ 5/4

James Wade survived six match darts in his first round match with Darren Webster and punters can profit from backing The Machine to struggle again.

Although Webster played well, the world number three was dreadful at times, both in scoring and finishing and it showed why his chances of lifting the trophy for the first time have been dismissed at 28/1.

Andy Smith fared much better in his opening clash with Steve Brown, surviving an early onslaught that included his opponent missing the chance to secure the third nine-darter already at the tournament with his final dart.

Odds of 5/4 that Smith can win the match with a 2.5 set head start make plenty of appeal as even if Wade does improve it’s difficult to see him being able to dominate.

Mervyn King to beat Ricky Evans @ 4/11

Mervyn King starts the match as a short favourite and rightfully so.

The ex-BDO star hasn’t exactly set the PDC tour alight of late but he will be confident of progressing to the third round at the expense of Ricky Evans.

King went all the way to the semi-finals back in 2009 and although matching that run may be beyond the 47-year-old over the next month he has a much better chance than his opponent.

Although 23-year-old Evans comfortably came through against the more experienced Ronnie Baxter, his pre-match odds of 5/4 reflect that it was much less of an upset than what has been reported.

Evans only averaged 87.21 and hit just four maximums so he wouldn’t have beaten too many with that level and was constantly encouraged by the woeful showing from Baxter.

It will be a much different test against King and the contrast in challenges from his first in Ally Pally may be his undoing.

Adrian Lewis (-3.5 sets) to beat Vincent Van Der Voort @ 6/5

This match shouldn’t last long, but not just because Adrian Lewis and Van Der Voort are two of the quickest players on the circuit.

The hugely popular Dutchman would bring the house down if he was able to topple the two-time champion but the reality is that he has little to no chance.

Lewis reserves his very best darts for the World Championship and even with the lop-sided support on the night, no player on the tour is better equipped to deal with it than the 2011 and 2012 champion.

Van Der Voort doesn’t have to look far for encouragement considering he has won two of their last three meetings, however, as mentioned Lewis is a different animal on the Palace oche.

His record of winning 19 of their 28 meetings is a much better indicator of how the match is going to go and odds of 6/5 that the favourite wins in straight sets looks the best approach.
