Man United faves to win in Greece and Chelsea to oust Galatasaray

Published:

Chelsea and Manchester United are deemed favourites to win on their travels in the Champions League last 16, as well as qualify at the expense of their respective opponents Galatasaray and Olympiacos.

Meanwhile, Ladbrokes split hairs over Manchester City’s home leg against Barcelona, though the Spanish remain the odds-on favourites to make the quarters, while Arsenal are not only outsiders for their home tie against Bayern Munich, but have a slim chance of qualifying according to the bookmakers.

Olympiacos (11/4) v Manchester United (19/20) – To qualify: 3/1 and 2/9

Without doubt, the English champions have been handed the easiest looking draw against rank outsiders Olympiacos.

Even taking in United’s erratic domestic form, you’d expect Wayne Rooney and co to continue their strong European displays and safely negotiate their way past the Greeks – whom they’ve beaten home and away twice in previous editions.

Galatasaray (5/2) v Chelsea (11/10) – To qualify: 11/4 and 1/4

Possibly the most intriguing in terms of who will qualify, as Didier Drogba and Wesley Sneijder come up against their former beloved manager from different clubs, Jose Mourinho.

Drogba is priced as a 6/4 shot to score in either leg, though across the whole tie Chelsea’s extra quality should shine through against Roberto Mancini’s side.

Manchester City (13/8) v Barcelona (8/5) – To qualify: 13/8 and 4/9

Given the way City have been busy crucifying all-comers to the Etihad in the Premier League, their price to overcome Barcelona at home is a real tempter.

The free-scoring Citizens have the requisite firepower to beat Barca at home, though having conceded at least twice at the Etihad in each group match, their defence could probe their Achiles Heel over the two ties.

Arsenal (13/5) v Bayern Munich (1/1) – To qualify: 11/4 and 1/4

They don’t come any tougher than this bad boy for the Gunners. Holders Bayern are considered the cream of European football, and for good reason.

Nevertheless, there are chinks of light to be found in Arsenal’s recent win over Borussia Dortmund, the Gunners own victory over Bayern in Munich at this stage last year and, Man City’s win over them most recently.
