Monaco to offer Evra summer escape to French Riviera

Given that it’s something of an open secret that Manchester United boss David Moyes should finally get his man in Leighton Baines this summer, the focus of attention will turn to the player Baines will seemingly replace at Old Trafford, Patrice Evra.

United’s vice-captain remains the club’s first choice left-back, but with Everton now ready to cash in on their prize asset – a scenario no doubt alleviated by the form of current stand-in Bryan Oviedo – Evra’s eight-year stay in the north west appears to be coming to an end.

With that in mind, France’s latest big spenders Monaco are ready to reignite their interest for the France international after failing to secure a deal last summer.

Evra previously played at Monaco for four years, and credited his time there under the guidance of Didier Deschamps as the most important of his career during his developing years, earning him the big money move to the Premier League.

And now it appears he is ready to repay his thanks by dedicating his final years as a footballer to helping the principality in their attempts to win their first French title since 2000.

Owned by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev, they have the financial clout to match their ambitions, despite the similar financial muscle boasted by Qatari owned PSG, the current league leaders over the channel.

Reports today claim that Monaco have registered their interest with Manchester United (who are now 4/5 to finish in the top four after a tough start to Moyes’ reign), but have been told that they will not be able to sign Evra in January, with the condition being that a deal for Baines must be completed before he is allowed to depart, with the largely untested Alex Buttner the only other left back on the books at United.
