New Suarez deal instantly renders Liverpool title odds too short

Published:

Christmas is still five days away but Santa Claus has clearly started his rounds early by delivering news of Luis Suarez’s new contract to gleefully excited Liverpool fans.

The Uruguayan has signed a brand-spanking long-term deal at the club, thus ending any thoughts of the impending doom that would engulf the side should he fly the nest in January.

Real Madrid had been linked to a New Year move for the striker with monotonous regularity, but any worries the Anfield faithful had about losing their 17-goal hitman will subside, with the anxiousness replaced by the hope of a serious title challenge.

Liverpool currently sit as the fourth favourites to hoist the Premier League trophy aloft at 6/1, despite sitting just two points away from leaders Arsenal.

But with their number seven now fully committed to the club that price instantly looks ridiculously long given his form.

The 26-year-old missed the first six games of the current campaign, which makes the fact that he’s motored to the head of the league’s scoring chart in just 11 appearances even more impressive.

To celebrate the news of his new-found commitment, Ladbrokes have opened a book on a few Suarez-based specials, with the company going 25/1 that the former Ajax striker breaks Ian Rush’s Liverpool scoring record.

It’s also 16/1 that the 26-year-old retires a Red, while 5/2 is available on him winning the league during his time at the club.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “We don’t know how long the deal is but we do know he’ll score goals consistently as long as he’s there. Another couple of Golden Boot winning seasons would see his odds of surpassing Rush fall significantly.”
