Torres and Giroud receive Champions League price boosts!

With Chelsea and Arsenal still looking to ensure they qualify as group winners in their respective Champions League groups on matchday six, Ladbrokes have given two of their big-shot strikers boosted odds to net the first goals of the game.

Fernando Torres to score first v Steaua @ 9/2 – out from 7/2

It’s well known that Chelsea’s £50m man saves his best work in front of goal for the cup competitions and particularly European ones.

Four of Torres’ five goals in a Blue shirt have arrived in cups this season, with two of those arriving against this very opposition in Chelsea’s Group E excursion to Romania.

The Spaniard not only opened the scoring after only five minutes against Steaua that evening, but his all-round performance earned him perhaps more praise than his brace.

It would be no surprise to see Jose Mourinho turn to Torres from the start, to try and fire his side through to the knockout stages as Group E victors.

Olivier Giroud to score first v Napoli @ 7/1 – out from 11/2

Arsenal’s lone striker has quickly become a fan favourite at the Emirates and it’s not difficult to fathom why.

Giroud not only nits together much of Arsenal’s highly cultured approach work with precise hold-up play and strength but, crucially, he knows where the onion bag is located too.

The Frenchman has already amassed 10 Gunners goals this season and has struck up a particular affinity with the Champions League also.

The sizeable number 12 has netted three times for Arsenal in Europe’s premier club competition this season (including the play-off with Fenerbahce) and also hit Napoli’s net in the home encounter against Rafa Benitez’s side.

A guaranteed starter under Arsene Wenger, this looks a flutter worthy of serious consideration at such long odds.
