AC Milan line up shock move for Leicester City goalkeeper

Published:

Clarence Seedorf has stepped up his search for a successor to goalkeeper Christian Abbiati with Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel top of his list of targets.

With Abbiati turning 37-years-of-age in the summer the new AC Milan manager is on the lookout for a potential new number one at the San Siro and Schmeichel – son of former Manchester United legend Peter – has emerged as the leading candidate.

The Italian giants had been reportedly keen on a move for Newcastle stopper Tim Krul this month but following the sacking of Massimiliano Allegri, the club have turned their attention to a £3.5 million move for the former Leeds star.

And Seedorf is confident of landing his man with the 27-year-old out of contract at the end of the season and stalling on a new deal with the King Power Stadium outfit, who are 3/4 to beat Middlesbrough at the weekend.

Schmeichel, who is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in England outside the Premier League, has been in excellent form this season helping the Foxes to a five-point lead at the top of the Championship.

But losing the former Manchester City man could be a huge blow to Nigel Pearson’s side’s chances of lifting the Championship, on at 3/4 with Ladbrokes, and returning to the Premier League after a 10-year absence.

Milan, on the other hand, have suffered their worst season in living memory and are languishing in 11th in Serie A, 30 points behind leaders Juventus and just eight above the relegation zone.

Seedorf’s charges still have a chance of Champions League glory but with La Liga high-flyers Atletico Madrid standing in their way, they do not have any appeal at a massive 66/1.

Last night’s exit from the Coppa Italia was yet another blow to the Rossoneri, who are 150/1 to finish in the bottom three of Serie A , but with Seedorf steering the ship and Schmeichel as the last line of defence things can only get better at the San Siro.
