Arsenal legend suggests Chelsea striker is perfect Gunner fit

After being frustrated in a 2-2 draw with Southampton, the result could spell the end of Arsenal’s six-game stay at the top of the Premier League after the final whistle toots on the Wednesday night fixtures.

With a well-documented thorny run of fixtures on the Gunners’ upcoming path, the need for strength in depth is becoming increasingly important for Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal’s chances to win the league this season have swollen to the tune of 9/2 with Ladbrokes following that Saints draw, but former Highbury midfielder Ray Parlour believes he’s found a player that could slip seamlessly into their system.

Speaking with TalkSport, Parlour said: “You need a big squad and I’m sure Arsene Wenger is looking at the situation and thinking, ‘who can we bring in to help?”

“Demba Ba would be perfect for Arsenal. They need someone like that, but would Chelsea let him leave for Arsenal?”

Considering Chelsea’s recent sale of Juan Mata to supposed rivals Manchester United, it’s likely that they would sell Ba to Arsenal, as long as the right price is offered.

The Gunners certainly could do with recruits to their forward line, with Olivier Giroud carrying the goal-scoring responsibility on his head for much of the season.

Nicklas Bendtner remains a divisive player among the Emirates faithful, while youngster Yaya Sanogo is only just beginning the comeback trail from injury.

Ba’s quality in front of goal is obvious. Although his time at Chelsea may not have displayed it, his record of 29 league goals in 54 appearances for Newcastle proves he’s can be a useful acquisition for a side of Arsenal’s ambitions, provided he gets the game time.

Chelsea face West Ham in a London derby, with the Senegalese man 7/2 to net the first goal of the game, while his chances of notching at any time are rated at 10/11.
