Norwich sign Newcastle winger on six-month loan deal

Norwich City have completed the signing of Jonas Gutierrez just a day after the Newcastle winger sad goodbye to the Toon fans on Twitter.

The 30-year-old, who has made just two appearances this season, responded to questions from Geordie fans on Twitter about when he would next be in action for Alan Pardew’s side.

And Gutierrez, who was brought to Newcastle from Real Mallorca by Kevin Keegan in 2008, responded: ‘It was an honour and a pleasure to play with the newcastle [sic] shirt and to have the support of the Geordie [sic].’

The Argentine later posted: ‘thanks for the messages. I enjoy my 5 years at the club, I hope the club finish the highest this season and the best to my team mates.’

Norwich manager Chris Hughton targeted a move for the Argentine international in a bid to boost the Canaries’ survival chances and he has got his man on a six-month loan deal.

Norwich, who are 1/4 to avoid relegation with Ladbrokes, are without a win in their last six Premier League matches and sit just two points off drop zone.

The East Anglian side are in need of a much needed boost and Hughton’s reunion with Gutierrez, who was a key component in the Newcastle side the 55-year-old led to promotion from the Championship in 2009, could be just what the relegation threatened squad need heading into the second half of the season.

The winger, nicknamed “Spider-Man” played 163 times in the league for the Magpies, scoring 10 goals and he also won 22 caps for Argentina at a time when he was considered integral to former coach Diego Maradona’s plans.

Norwich, who are 11/4 for the drop, will be hopeful the former Velez Sarsfield man can inspire them to a turn around in fortunes ahead of crucial fixtures against relegation rivals Fulham, Cardiff and Hull City.
