Paris Saint-Germain plot bid to rob Newcastle of their star man

| 03.01.2014

Yohan Cabaye’s exploits in a Newcastle shirt since arriving from Lille have won him plenty of plaudits, so much so that a head-turning bid from Arsenal was lodged during the summer transfer window.

The attempt to lure Cabaye away from St James’ Park caused such a commotion that the midfielder was left out of the side in early part of the season, with his manager Alan Pardew claiming the Frenchman wasn’t in the correct mindset to take the field.

Since putting the furore behind him, though, Cabaye has once again become a regular in the Magpie midfield as the club looks to build towards a top-six finish.

However, with the January transfer window now fully flung open the services of the creative midfield man are becoming highly sought after once again.
It seems unlikely that Arsenal will return to ruffle Pardew’s feathers with a new bid, with Arsene Wenger stating after the clubs’ recent clash that a midfielder wasn’t on his New Year shopping list.

As such Ladbrokes have priced up the Gunners to be Cabaye’s landing spot in this transfer window as a 20/1 possibility, with the player going absolutely nowhere the 1/4 favourite.

However, if a £10m bid from Arsenal was enough to have the 26-capped Frenchman wanting away, then news of Paris Saint-Germain’s interest will no doubt give Pardew a few sleepless nights.

The free-spending Ligue 1 champs are priced up at 11/4 shots to make Cabaye a January signing and it’s thought that a massive bid of £22m is being readied.

Laurent Blanc, a clear fan of the 27-year-old having handed him his international debut, has gone on record to sing Cabaye’s praises recently and a whopping bid in excess of £20m will be difficult for Mike Ashley and co to turn down.

20/1 shots Liverpool and Manchester United are thought to be outsiders to land the player while at 33/1, a move to Monaco looks less likely.
