Queens Park Rangers ace linked with Premier League return

| 22.01.2014

Mark Hughes could be set for another Manchester City reunion at the Britannia with Shaun Wright-Phillips the latest player to be linked with a move to Stoke

The 32-year-old previously worked under the Potters boss during his second spell at the Etihad and would undoubtedly relish a return to the Premier League having fallen out of favour with current employers Queens Park Rangers.

With just nine Championship appearances to his name so far this term, question marks remain over the winger’s future at the club with manager Harry Redknapp appearing to favour the likes of Junior Hoilett, Tom Carroll and Jermaine Jenas in midfield.

It could pave the way for a move to Stoke where Wright-Phillips will no doubt hope to follow in the footsteps of former teammate Stephen Ireland.

Hughes rescued the 27-year-old from the doldrums over the summer, bringing him to the Britannia on a season long loan.

It was a gamble that evidently paid off for the Welshman, with Ireland excelling in the midfield for Stoke, with his undoubted highlight so far being an excellent goal in the club’s surprise win over Chelsea just before Christmas.

Stoke have already been active in the January transfer window, recruiting highly-rated Manchester City forward John Guidetti on a loan until the end of the season.

And the acquisition of the former Chelsea attacking midfielder could provide some much needed attacking verve to a side without a win in five Premier League games.

Though last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace left the Potters four points off the relegation places, a few high calibre acquisitions could see them launch a bid for the Premier League top 10, something priced at 9/2 with Ladbrokes.

It could all start with a move for the diminutive midfielder though, as the Manchester City love-in continues at the Britannia.
