Sociedad will be too much for Santander in Copa del Rey
Published:Real Sociedad head into this Copa del Rey clash with Segunda Division B leaders Racing Santander as favourites and should have little to fear given their dominance at the Anoeta.
The La Liga side are 2/9 for the win with their opponents, who ply their trade in Spain’s third tier, a distant 10/1 for victory.
Sociedad were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Villarreal in the last round and though 17/4 on a stalemate tempts, the gulf in class and the hosts’ record against Racing suggests a big win may be on the cards for La Real.
Santander have rarely enjoyed trips to the Anoeta, losing on four of their last five visits to the Basque Club.
And they couldn’t have timed their return much worse with Sociedad flying high in La Liga off the back of some impressive form, including five home wins on the bounce in the league.
Jagoba Arrasate’s side have been defensively solid of late at the Anoeta, keeping clean sheets in three of their last four and could restrict the visitors here, with Santander 2/9 to score between 0-1 goals.
There have been four or more goals scored in eight of La Real’s last 10 La Liga games and the 3/2 on over 3.5 total goals being scored in this particular encounter could be among the bets of the night.
The Txuri-urdin rarely do things by halves, with four of their last six victories coming by a margin of more than two goals, a statistic that makes the 19/10 on a Sociedad -2 handicap one to look out for.
If the La Liga outfit are to get close to that they will need Antonie De Griezman and Javier Agirretxe to be on song.
Top scorer for Sociedad in the league and cup so far this term, Griezman has three goals in his last four appearances at the Anoeta and is 9/2 to open the scoring.
Agirretxe has an identical recent record for Real and is 7/2 to score first, while those backing the Spaniard to repeat the hat-trick he claimed against Real Betis last month can do so at 14/1.
