Sorry England mauled again as Aussies complete whitewash

It is safe to say England’s trip Down Under has been nothing short of disastrous.

After heading across the world as favourites and on a euphoric high after a summer of domination they have been schooled in every department by a vastly superior Australian outfit.

The dreaded whitewash was confirmed last night as they again collapsed in the Aussie sun.

After eventually bowling the hosts out for 276 Alastair Cook’s men were set the improbable task of racking up 448 runs to win the final Test and regain some pride.

However, they contrived to make the improbable impossible as they wilted, being bowled out for a paltry 166, giving their rivals a 281 run victory and just the third whitewash in Ashes history.

Ladbrokes are offering 50/1 on a repeat performance when the battle for the famous urn reignites in England in 2015 and unless there is a drastic improvement from England that may offer real value.

The pathetic defeat on just the third day summed up the tourists toils on this tour.

Issues with the bat have been the underlying factor this winter, with not one of the party surpassing 300 runs, a feat achieved by no fewer than six Australians.

Brad Haddin only managed 28 in his innings last evening, but that was enough to take him to 493 runs at an average of 61, ensuring he has scored more runs than any other man batting at seven or below in an Ashes series.

The home side had the batsmen with the six best averages, as well as the four most impressive bowlers.

Mitchell Johnson took 37 wickets at an incredible 13.9 as England demonstrated how incapable they were of dealing with it short and quick, while he was more than ably assisted by Ryan Harris, Peter Siddle and Nathan Lyon.

Attention will now turn to the ODIs, with the Aussies as short as 8/15 to win the opener, while they are 6/1 to make it whitewashes in both forms of the game.
