Wigan, Forest and Reading all have bids for Hull man accepted
Published:For a side like Hull, whose primary ambition this season is to solidify their Premier League status for another year, the January transfer window would be a time when you’d expect players’ names to fill the “in” column rather than the “out” of the usual summaries.
However, they seem set to allow one of their number to drop down a level having accepted bids from Wigan, Nottingham Forest and Reading for Jack Hobbs.
The 25-year-old has made 62 appearances for the Tigers since signing from Leicester City in 2011 and looked set to be handed some Premier League game time after being recalled from a loan spell with Forest following James Chester’s injury.
As it turns out, that couldn’t be further from the truth as Steve Bruce has revealed his employers have accepted three separate bids from the second tier trio, leaving it up to Hobbs where he next plys his trade.
Having spent this season playing for Billy Davies at Forest, who afforded the former Liverpool stopper 27 outings in the red of his temporary home, it seems likely that Hobbs returns there on a permanent basis.
Sitting in the playoff places with a four-point cushion on their rivals, and unbeaten in 11 games in all competitions, Forest are an obvious attraction for Hobbs, who has the highest whoscored.com rating of any Tricky Tees player this season from his 25 starts.
With Forest 11/4 to be promoted this season it’s likely Hobbs will decide to head back to the City Ground to further solidify his position in the heart of their defence, with the hope of playing Premier League football with them next term a real possibility.
Reading sit one place below Forest on goal difference but are 4/1 shots for promotion this term and must surely feel they are on a hiding to nothing with their bid.
Wigan, while enjoying a resurgence under Uwe Rosler, are even further down the pecking order in both the race for promotion, at 9/1, and Hobbs’ signature.
