Roma and Lyon victories key to midweek European acca
Published:There is plenty of European football to get stuck into this Wednesday with action in both domestic league and cup competitions.
In the Coppa Italia Roma host Napoli in a mouth-watering first leg of their semi-final clash, while Lyon are also in cup action in France against Troyes.
With home victories expected in both those ties Benfica and Pacos Ferreira are backed to complete an accumulator which pays £49.50 from a £10 stake
Roma sent Serie A leaders Juventus crashing out of the Coppa Italia in the last round and Rudi Garcia’s side can put one foot in the final with victory over Napoli at the Stadio Olimpico.
I Giallorossi have not tasted defeat at home this season and you have to go back all the way to May to find a 1-0 loss to Lazio in the final of this competition.
Garcia’s charges, who had their game at the weekend abandoned due to the weather, will be desperate to go one step further this year.
Napoli stand in their way but a 3-0 defeat away at Atalanta showed Rafael Benitez’s team can be exploited and Roma have the quality to do just that, especially in front of their home fans.
Lyon suffered a shock defeat to Rennes at the weekend ending a run of six straight wins.
But Les Gones, who were unbeaten in 12 games in all competitions before the weekend’s loss, can bounce back against Ligue 2 Troyes.
Daniel Masoni’s side have some decent recent form of their own with just one defeat in their last four, but Rémi Garde’s charges should have enough quality to book a place in the Coupe de la Ligue final.
Penafiel are sitting pretty in second spot in the Liga de Honra table but they face a difficult task stopping Jorge Jesus’ Benfica side in the Taça de Portugal quarter-finals.
The Eagles are unbeaten in their last 15 games in all competitions and expect that sequence to continue at the Estadio Municipal 25 de Abril.
Henrique Calisto’s Pacos Ferreira side have returned to form in recent weeks after snapping a run of nine straight matches without a victory.
Unbeaten in their last three, Os Castores will be determined to seal all three points which could see them leapfrog Olhanense at the bottom of the table.
And with Olhanense picking up just one win from their last 12 matches and no victories from their last five on the road, Pacos should do just that.
