England In-Form XI: New West Ham and Villa names in Rio reckoning

Published:

In anticipation of our latest ruling on the in-form England players from the weekend we know you’ve been smashing the F5 button on your keyboard with more force than David Moyes currently ploughs his head into a brick wall, so we aren’t going to keep you waiting any longer.

According to our scouts, there are some new names throwing themselves into the World Cup reckoning, but do you agree with their selections?

John Ruddy’s feather-light grip on the in-form England number one jersey is finally broken after three weeks, with the recalled David Stockdale, who is 33/1 to go to Brazil, helping Fulham to their first Premier League win since New Year’s Day.

It’s a Liverpool pair who line up in the full-back positions with Glen Johnson and Jon Flanagan turning in supreme performances for Liverpool against Manchester United. The former looks a certainty to travel with Roy Hodgson this summer, at 1/7. The latter, who still hasn’t been priced up, seemingly needs the plague to strike down the country’s remaining wide defenders to make it though.

Curtis Davies, a 16/1 shot, kept Edin Dzeko under lock and key against Manchester City and is partnered by 40/1 chance Nathan Baker, who was vital in shutting Chelsea out at Villa Park.

Steven Gerrard’s double-penalty success against United bodes well for any impending shootout in Rio and he’s 1/33 to skipper the nation in front of the world.

Yet another rampaging Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (4/9) display in the centre of the park sees him make the grade, while Villa’s match winner, Fabien Delph (20s) would be unlucky not to at least be considered by the England boss given the season he’s having.

On the wings, Raheem Sterling (8/13) can do no wrong and is again included in the infamous graphic but the only now-customary Southampton selection goes to Jay Rodriguez, who impressed greatly in the 4-2 win over Norwich.

In a close-run thing up top, Andy Carroll’s all-round excellence sees the 9/4-shot beat Rickie Lambert’s (7/4) cameo to the starting spot.
