Is Frank de Boer holding out for David Moyes’ job?

Ajax manager Frank de Boer could be eyeing up the chance to replace David Moyes as manager of Manchester United after spurning the advances of two other Premier League clubs.
Moyes is under pressure at Old Trafford after a dismal start to his reign, which sees the Red Devils sitting seventh in the league and facing a Champions League exit against Olympiakos, and is now priced at 10/1 to be the next Premier League boss to leave his post.
To put this into context, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is at longer odds of 12/1 despite his Cardiff City side still being mired in the relegation dogfight.
De Boer’s twin brother Ronald says it is a dream of Frank’s to manage in the Premier League and recently claimed that the Ajax gaffer turned down chances to sit in the Liverpool dugout before Brendan Rodgers’ appointment and to replace Andre Villas-Boas at Spurs.
“He thought he was still not ready and wanted to learn more,” the older twin told TalkSport.
“Now he’s ready though. We’ll have to wait and see. It’s important for Frank to get the right club otherwise he won’t leave Ajax. He’s very happy there.”
While Tottenham could still be an option for De Boer – with Spurs likely to miss out on the Champions League – United are increasingly looking likely to be in need of a new manager come the summer and the Dutchman boasts a winning mentality that could appease the Old Trafford faithful.
On top of landing 14 major trophies as a player the 43 –year-old was assistant manager of the Dutch side that reached the 2010 World Cup final and has since landed three Eredivisie titles as a manager in his own right.
Moyes may have been able to hide behind the excuse of a squad in need of overhaul so far this term but, should United fail to turn the tide against Olympiakos, the Glazer family could decide he is not the man to be trusted with a £150m+ makeover of the United playing staff.
Sir Alex Ferguson remains the front runner at 5/2 to replace Moyes if the former Everton boss is sacked by United, but if the club choose to look forward rather than back De Boer could well be the way to go.
