Juventus and Antonio Conte keeping tabs on SPFL youngsters

Published:

It’s nearly 30 years since a Scottish player strutted his stuff in Serie A, with Graeme Souness’ two-year spell at Sampdoria proving a high point for players from north of the border in Italy, however Juventus could be about to change that.

The Old Lady have all but sealed a third straight Italian league title, while Ladbrokes is offering odds of 3/1 on Antonio Conte’s team winning the Europa League, but it would appear the Bianconeri are already looking to next term and … Dundee United.

According to a report from Courier journalist Ian Roache, Juve have become the latest European giant to express an interest in four players currently on the books of the Tannadice club.

Seven points off second place Aberdeen, Dundee United can be backed at 10/1 in the betting without Celtic market in the Scottish Premiership following an impressive campaign under Jackie McNamara.

Much of this success has been built on the form of their fabulous foursome Jon Souttar, Ryan Gauld, Andrew Robertson and Stuart Armstrong.

Souttar was previously linked with a move down south to Everton, with the Toffees keen to land the 17-year-old, but could now face strong competition from the likes of Juve, who would be able to offer the player Champions League football.

Attacking midfielder Gauld also represents hot transfer property, with the 18-year-old likely to command a high transfer fee along with the 21-year-old Armstrong and 20-year-old defender Robertson.

While the lure of playing in the Premier League or even abroad with a team of Juventus’ stature is likely to be too tempting to resist, the Terrors can look forward to cashing in when the right offer comes along – securing their future, financially, in the process.

Gauld, for instance, has already been scouted by Manchester United, with David Moyes likely to favour a move for his fellow Scot.
