Wenger admits Arsenal’s interest in Real Sociedad’s French star

Arsene Wenger has admitted Arsenal are tracking Real Sociedad’s in-form winger Antoine Griezmann with a view to a summer move to the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners have been constantly linked with the Frenchman, whose form in La Liga has earned him a call-up to France’s squad for the friendly with Spain, and Wenger has now confirmed his side’s interest in the forward.

Wenger told Telefoot TF1: “Yes, we follow him in great detail.

“That should not come as a surprise because he attracts other clubs as well.

“But we follow him, he is a known commodity.”

The 22-year-old has fired 19 goals in 38 appearances to help Real Sociedad to sixth place in La Liga and is only behind World Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo and in-demand Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa in the scoring charts.

His goals have helped him seal a place in Didier Deschamps’ French squad – who are 18/1 to win the 2014 World Cup – and he now has an outside chance of reaching this summer’s tournament in Brazil.

Arsenal are in the market for attacking reinforcements and Griezmann, who is attracting interest from PSG, Real Madrid and Juventus, fits the bill for the north London club.

The Txuri-urdin are desperate to keep hold of their prized asset but with fellow countryman Wenger publicly declaring his interest in the player they face a huge battle to keep the winger who came through their youth system.

Wenger’s plans for reinforcing his squad will please Arsenal fans after their side suffered a huge blow to their title challenge with a 1-0 defeat to Stoke City.

The Gunners are now four points behind league leaders Chelsea and are out to 20/1 with Ladbrokes to win the Premier League. Their chances of Champions League glory, on at 150/1, also appear to be gone after a 2-0 home defeat to holders Bayern Munich but they still have hopes of lifting the FA Cup this season.

Arsenal, who are 11/4 to win the famous trophy, host Everton this weekend in the cup quarter-final in a game that could make or break a season which promised so much for so long.
