Cazorla comments show lack of belief in Arsenal’s development

There will be many who believe that in light of Arsenal’s alarming abseil away from the top of the Premier League that their faltering stars ought to be attempting to do something about it rather than mulling over their futures.

After all, there is still the small matter of an FA Cup to contest and the all-important fourth spot in the Premier League to hold onto.

Arsenal are priced as the 4/9 favourites to end their long trophy drought and at 1/2 to fend off the challenge of Everton to maintain their 17-year run in the Champions League, yet Santi Cazorla has been talking of the possible need to move on.

“I want titles and that is why I came to Arsenal,” Cazorla told Sport 360ᵒ. “Every football player wants to win titles. We’ve gone many years without winning one.

“And if not, what I’ll look for in my next destination is to have the chance to win.”

While the 29-year-old Spaniard also alluded to the fact he still had two years left to run on his contract at the Emirates, this is hardly the time to be giving off such signals.

How times have changed in the last few months in north London. The World Cup winner had been enjoying a real purple patch back in January, when he scored five of his six goals in all competitions.

However, his inability to maintain that sort of form has been firmly in keeping with the slump of the Gunners as a whole and begs the question of how much Arsene Wenger (or potentially someone new) still has left to do, if they are to turn the Gunners into genuine title contenders.

FA Cup glory and perhaps to a lesser extent finishing fourth has never looked more vital to preventing another backwards step in Arsenal’s development.

A winning culture must be returned to the club and players like Cazorla must pull their socks up rather than talk about leaving if they are to move forward towards a title.
