Celtic target summer move for Norwich’s Premier League hero

| 30.04.2014

Norwich City’s relegation from the Premier League could pave the way for Robert Snodgrass to complete a move north of the border to Celtic.

The midfielder has racked up eight goals and four assists in 36 appearances for the Canaries this season, despite the East Anglia club struggling for results.

Chris Hughton has already been dismissed from his role as manager this season and with the team currently in the relegation zone on goal difference with two games to play, things are looking bleak for the Carrow Road club who are a distant 11/2 to stay up with Ladbrokes.

And their prospects have hardly been helped by quotes attributed to Snodgrass that were published in the Daily Record this week, in which the Scotland international admitted that Celtic held a place “deep in my heart.”

“I’m flattered to be linked with Celtic as I’ve watched them since I was a kid. I was also in Scottish football and there’s always a part of me that thinks I’ve a point to prove there,” he said.

The midfielder was also keen to reiterate his commitment to the Canaries cause though, despite their bleak league position.

“As a player, you want to play at the highest level and that’s why I’m giving everything I can to keep Norwich up,” he said.

However with games against Chelsea and Arsenal to come, the Norfolk club are facing a tough task to maintain their Premier League status.

Fail to do that and the summer could bring a mass exodus of the club’s biggest stars, with Snodgrass likely to be the most sought after player on the club’s books.

And while Celtic are among those already being linked with a bid for the midfielder, they could face stiff competition from the likes of Aston Villa, who were also rumoured to be interested in landing the player.

Norwich are 14/1 to score a surprise victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, with the Blues 1/5 favourites for the win.
