Man United’s Van Gaal denial means Giggs audition rumbles on

A change in manager more aligned with the Manchester United way was all it took for the Old Trafford club to look more like their old selves against Norwich, with a 4-0 win topping off a dream week for interim boss Ryan Giggs.

Taking over until the end of the season after David Moyes’ sacking, Giggs reverted back to the Sir Alex Ferguson recipe of pacy 4-4-2 style in his first game in charge.

Three games remain in Giggs’ short tenure managing his boyhood club, but revelations over the club’s flirtation with Louis van Gaal mean the former nippy winger isn’t completely out of the running to be the next permanent boss.

Giggs is a 5/1 shot in the betting with Ladbrokes, while the Dutchman is a heavy favourite at 2/9. However, following swirling reports that the former Bayern Munich boss had signed on United’s dotted line, the club released a statement insisting no deal had been agreed.

With three very winnable games against Hull, Sunderland and Southampton to oversee, Giggs could well manage himself into the driving seat to get the job beyond his interim role.

After suffering through the Moyes tenure, United fans will be clamouring for a manager who will adhere to their traditional, attacking style of football, and no one is better placed to deliver that than the man who became the most decorated player in English football under Ferguson.

In leaving both Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini out of the starting line-up to face Norwich, Giggs has already shown his desire to make tough decisions and the style of play on display at Old Trafford would have pleased everyone associated with the club.

A haul of nine points from the remaining three fixtures will surely turn the United higher up’s heads to the managerial abilities of the club legend and there are certainly worse 6/1 bets you could pin some cash to at the moment.
