Man Utd legend backed to take over from David Moyes
Ladbrokes have suspended betting on the next Premier League manager to leave after widespread reports that David Moyes will not see out the week as Manchester United boss, with player-coach Ryan Giggs among the favourites at 5/1 to take over at Old Trafford.
Moyes – who could previously be backed at 6/4 to lose his job before the start of next term – has come under increased pressure after his side’s lacklustre performance at old club Everton, where United managed two shots on target despite dominating possession.
The Toffees were good value for their 2-0 win, completing a league double over the Red Devils in 2013/14, as did neighbours Liverpool – the first time both Merseyside clubs have achieved this feat.
The list of Moyes’ embarrassments is mounting and United are reportedly ready to end their 10-month association with ‘The Chosen One’, with club legend Giggs thought to be under consideration for a fast-tracked promotion into the manager’s office.
Louis van Gaal is the favourite to be Man Utd’s next manager at 4/1, but the Netherlands coach has also been strongly linked with the Spurs job, while Tata Martino’s likely dismissal from Barcelona may give the former Blaugrana chief cause to pause before hitching up in the Premier League.
The name that most excites the Old Trafford faithful is Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp, who is currently priced up at an industry-best 6/1.
Klopp has been admirably loyal to Dortmund, and former employers Mainz, so far in his managerial career and has indicated that he will see out his current contract at the Westfalenstadion – where he won successive Bundesliga titles between 2010-12.
Adherence to that commitment would keep him in Germany until 2018, but Klopp’s resolve has not yet been tested by a club the size of the outgoing Premier League champions, so the 46-year-old’s capture cannot be entirely ruled out.
