Price Boost: Rooney ready to rock Bayern at Old Trafford

Manchester United face the unenviable task of dethroning Bayern Munich in this year’s Champions League quarter finals and if they’re to have any hope of upsetting the odds they’ll need their star man to rise to the challenge.

Wayne Rooney has been one of the Red Devils’ leading lights in an otherwise miserable season thus far and Ladbrokes are putting their necks on the line by boosting his price to score first at Old Trafford from 6/1 to 8/1.

United manager David Moyes will be all too aware of how important it is that his side make home advantage count in their quarter-final first leg tie and Rooney could prove pivotal if the three-time European Cup winners are to progress.

Wazza has been busy taking centre stage in recent weeks, opening the scoring in spectacular fashion before adding another strike to his name in his side’s recent 2-0 away victory at West Ham.

And the terrace hero further underpinned his importance to the club with a potentially season-rescuing brace to overturn a one-goal deficit in United’s 4-1 hammering of Aston Villa last weekend.

Now the focus switches to Europe and in Pep Guardiola’s Bayern, Man United prepare to face the ultimate test.

Already crowned Bundesliga champions with seven games to spare, FCB have suffered just two defeats in competitive matches in the last calendar year.

Even against a club of United’s stature, it’s still no surprise to see the Germans priced at 1/2 for a crucial victory in Manchester, with the hosts available at an incredible 5/1 and the draw 7/2 with Ladbrokes.

However, given that two of Bayern’s previous three defeats have been at the hands of English sides, there is hope for Moyes’ inconsistent outfit.

United were victorious the last time these two teams met for a Champions League quarter-final second leg encounter at Old Trafford in 2010.

Darron Gibson’s opener and a Nani double salvo secured a 3-2 win on the night, although they were subsequently knocked out of the competition on away goals.

A repeat of the same scoreline is available at tasty odds of 40/1. However, United will be hoping that on this occasion their efforts to gain the upper hand against Bayern are not in vain.
