Rumours suggest Man United striker may join exodus to Everton

Following news of Tom Cleverley’s proposed departure to Everton, Manchester United frontman Danny Welbeck has emerged as another potential target for the Toffees.

If reports are to be believed Roberto Martinez’s upwardly mobile outfit could make a move for Welbeck and England teammate Cleverley this summer.

Everton ended manager David Moyes’ tenure at United with a 2-0 victory over the Red Devils last time out and remain in the hunt for a top-four finish at odds of 4/1 with Ladbrokes.

And having witnessed first-hand the exciting capabilities of Martinez’s side, Welbeck and Cleverley could be tempted into jumping ship to Goodison Park.

The likes of Phil Neville, Darron Gibson and Tim Howard have all made the journey from Old Trafford to the blue half of Merseyside before with a planned shake-up in Salford potentially resulting in two more United players making the same switch.

Welbeck in particular would make a good addition to the Toffees squad with the future of on-loan star Romelu Lukaku still uncertain.

The Belgian striker has been linked with a return to parent club Chelsea as well as with Atletico Madrid in a swap deal for La Liga hotshot Diego Costa.

And with European football appearing to be a real possibility next season Martinez knows he’ll have to add to his squad to cope with the rigours of regular midweek matches.

Everton chase an eighth win in nine matches away at Southampton this weekend with Ladbrokes making the visitors the 11/8 favourites to triumph.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Saints are 15/8 to take all three points with the draw priced at 12/5.

Meanwhile, Welbeck’s current employers are 4/11 to win at home to Norwich in Ryan Giggs’ first game in charge with the relegation threatened Canaries available at 7/1 to cause a huge upset and the points to be shared a 4/1 shout.
