St Helens handed Challenge Cup clash with Leeds
Published:St Helens sealed a place in round five of the Challenge Cup after a controversial victory over Huddersfield Giants.
Saints now face a crunch clash against Leeds, who eased past Wakefield, at the next stage and are 5/1 to lift the cup with Ladbrokes.
But Nathan Brown’s side can consider themselves lucky after referee Phil Bentham adjudged last year’s Man of Steel Danny Brough’s drop goal to have drifted wide.
It allowed Luke Walsh to go up the other end and seal the one-pointer and take Saints through to the next round to face the Rhinos, who are 4/1 to win the Challenge Cup.
Elsewhere, the 5/2 favourites and defending champions Wigan had no trouble getting past Dewsbury in a 58-6 victory and will host Hunslet Hawks in the next round.
Warrington, the 2012 winners, are also into the hat for the next round after a hard fought 28-24 win over Hull KR.
The Wolves, who are 7/2 with the bookie to win the tournament, have been handed a home tie at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Salford Red Devils were involved in the tie of the last round, coming out on top 37-36 at Hull FC.
The victory was not enough to spare Brian Noble in a coaching re-shuffle with Iestyn Harris coming in and taking over the head coach duties.
Noble could still be around the AJ Bell Stadium in a Director of Football role at the Red Devils, who are 14/1 to win the cup, when Widens Vikings are the visitors in round five.
