Chester: See the Sun makes our tipping shortlist on final day

Published:

As Chester’s May Meeting draws to a close we’ve picked another three to follow in a bid to go out on a high.

Orchestra obliged for us yesterday. Can See the Sun follow-up and land an interesting Crabbies EBF Stallions Handicap?

NAP – See the Sun (15:15 Chester)

Trainer Tim Easterby is double-handed for this renewal where we’re plumping for See the Sun to reverse the form with stablemate Ventura Mist.

David Allan takes the ride and can make amends for defeat to his rival in last season’s Two-Year-Old Trophy at Redcar.

Having 6lb in hand over the top-weight should also be in See the Sun’s favour with progressive form this season backing up his claims.

Next Best – Brown Panther (14:45 Chester)

Mount Athos bids to retain his Ormonde Stakes Trophy however owner Dr. Marwan Koukash has openly stated that the Melbourne Cup remains his prime target.

That admission may be good news for fans of the Michael Owen-owned Brown Panther who makes his seasonal reappearance here.

The consistent six-year-old’s last-place finish in this race two years ago has now been shown to be just a bad day at the office with trainer Tom Dascombe confident that he can improve upon that showing.

We’re feeling pretty upbeat about Brown Panther’s chances too with last term’s success from fresh another positive in favour of our selection.

Lively Longshot – First Warning (17:00 Chester)

First Warning is our pick of Friday’s outsiders and with crack apprentice Oisin Murphy onboard there’s plenty to get excited about.

Trainer Tim Pitt enjoyed success with Sir Maximillian in the Stellar Group Handicap on the first day of the May Meeting and can sign-off here with another victory.

His mount faces a step up in class but against the likes of the inconsistent Gabrial’s Star there’s every chance the four-year-old can spring a surprise and build upon solid all-weather form.
