Pochettino and De Boer in two-horse race for Tottenham job

Published:

The summer break may only be a couple of days old but we’ve already had two managerial departures in the Premier League with a third in the offing should Southampton’s Mauricio Pochettino take up the Tottenham Hotspur hot seat.

Ladbrokes has priced the Argentine as the 11/8 favourite to land the top job at White Hart Lane, with the 42-year-old thought to be open to the move following what he perceives as the conclusion of the current ‘project’ at Southampton.

The potential departures of star Saints players Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana could also hasten his desire to leave St Mary’s with Tottenham eager to install the former Espanyol boss ahead of another summer of rebuilding.

But despite their interest in the South American, Spurs are also thought to be keen on Ajax manager Frank de Boer, with the Dutchman currently the 6/4 second-favourite to land the Tottenham job, some way ahead of surprise candidate Rafa Benitez who is third in the betting at 6/1.

The club looks set to discuss a move with De Boer and those behind the scenes at the Amsterdam giants, though it’s unclear as to whether these talks will only take place if Southampton rebuff an approach for Pochettino.

Tim Sherwood, meanwhile, may not be out of a job for long, with the 45-year-old enjoying a competent campaign at the helm of the Lilywhites which could be enough to convince West Bromwich Albion of his suitability for the currently-vacant role of Baggies manager.

The former Blackburn Rovers captain is the 4/1 second favourite to take the Hawthorns hot seat, just behind Malky Mackay at 3/1.

One manager that looks unlikely to face the chop anytime soon, meanwhile, is Alan Pardew, with reports suggesting that the Newcastle United man will be handed a £60 million transfer kitty by club owner Mike Ashley this summer.
