With Rodgers planning a Liverpool clearout, these three must go

Enough dust may have settled over the 2013/14 Premier League season that Liverpool fans are able to celebrate their return to the Champions League, rather than bemoan their narrow miss on a maiden Premier League title.

For rumour writers, the club’s reinstatement at the head table of European football has long been forecast and squad supplements have been linked endlessly to Anfield as a result.

Little may have been said about the Liverpool fringe that needs to be cut from the squad ahead of the competition though, but Brendan Rodgers is acutely aware of the fact and is planning a clear out.

When the summer clean up comes, don’t be surprised if these three are among the departures:

Daniel Agger

At 29-years-old it could be argued that a man of Agger’s experience would be vital in a Champions League campaign, especially after a defensive showing that was less than convincing this season.

However, with the Dane losing his place in the side to the fresher legs of Mamadou Sakho and Martin Skrtel the undisputed leader of the back four, Rodgers could cash in on Barcelona’s interest in Agger with little concern.

Joe Allen

Rodgers’ second Anfield signing was brought in as a disciple of the Northern Irishman’s system at Swansea.

However, two seasons into his Liverpool life Allen is becoming increasingly marginalised as his manager begins to realise there are players at his disposal better at the Welshman’s supposed strong suit, passing, than Allen is.

Iago Aspas

Signed from Celta Vigo this past summer for around £7m, Aspas made just five Premier League starts, failed to register a goal and had just one shot on target.

The 26-year-old isn’t likely to take kindly to another season sat on the pine and it’s probably best for all concerned if Rodgers admits his error and cuts his losses.
