Sweden’s Stenson eager to claim first Nordea Masters title

Published:

After a thrilling PGA Championship at Wentworth the European Tour moves onto Sweden for the 24th renewal of the Nordea Masters.

With the second Major of the year just around the corner plenty of players will be vying to get into the winning habit and Ladbrokes News’ Oliver Yew has marked out four players to keep an eye on as the action unfolds at the PGA Sweden National GC.

Henrik Stenson – 6/1

The Swedish star is hitting form at just the right time and after his seventh-place finish at the PGA Championship at Wentworth he will be confident of success at the PGA Sweden National. The world number two has never won this tournament and he will be desperate to put that right in front of his Swedish fans and at a venue where he is an honorary life member! At 6/1 with Ladbrokes the 38-year-old is the clear market leader for the title and after a good week for the favourites, it’s difficult to make a case against him adding the Nordea Masters to his CV.

Thomas Bjorn – 20/1

It was just not meant to be for Thomas Bjorn at Wentworth after a disastrous 75 in the final round ended his chances of glory. But don’t let that one round of golf put you of backing the Dane in what has become his home tournament after he and his family settled in Sweden. The 43-year-old finished fourth last year at this event and if he can take the form of his opening round 62 at the PGA Championship into the Nordea Masters he has every chance of claiming the title.

Jonas Blixt – 20/1

Last year’s runner-up, Blixt is well fancied to go one better at the Lakes Course just outside Malmo. After his brilliant showing in this year’s Masters and another solid display last week at the European Tour’s flagship it would be no surprise to see this 20/1 shot at the top of the leaderboard come Sunday afternoon.

Shane Lowry – 33/1

The Irishman has been in top form in recent weeks and at 33/1 should not be dismissed to mount a challenge in Sweden. The 27-year-old fell just short behind Rory McIlroy at Wentworth last week but he continued his good run of form by qualifying for the US Open at an even earlier this week and will be in confident mood of adding to his two European Tour wins so far.
