3 bets for Canadian GP qualifying includes Vergne making Q3

| 06.06.2014

Ahead of qualifying at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit for F1’s Canadian Grand Prix, Christian Crowther takes an in-depth look at some of the most profitable punts based on the season so far.

Jean-Eric Vergne to reach Q3 @ 13/8

If only Torro Rosso had managed to match race reliability with qualifying speed this season, then the team’s Renault-driven cars certainly would have picked up more points than just the eight so far.

Five different retirements have cost the Italian team dear and ironically, it’s Vergne, the quicker of their two drivers, who has bore the brunt in failing to complete four of the six races through mechanical failure.

Still, the Frenchman has excelled in qualifying, making the final cut four out of six times this season, and in Montreal last year he recorded his best result of 2013, starting seventh on the grid before claiming sixth in the race.

Lewis Hamilton to take pole @ 4/9

Not the bravest of tips admittedly, but the Mercedes man simply relishes this high-speed circuit as three career wins in Montreal will tell you.

Last year Hamilton missed out on starting from the front of the grid by an ultra-slim 0.087 seconds, in a far less superior machine than Sebastian Vettel’s Red Bull which pipped him.

The Brit has poled here twice more during his career and is fully psyched after his teammate’s Monaco escapades.

Qualifying Winning Margin: 0.301 secs or greater @ 6/4

Don’t be put off by the seeming technicality of this little punt, it could be the best of the lot.

Three times in the opening six races of the 2014 season, the lap which ensures nothing but clear road ahead come race day has been clocked at over 0.300 secs faster than the next nearest.
