Argentina v Iran: Aguero ready to rediscover his goalscoring form

Published:

Argentina have yet to set the world alight in Brazil but now they have an opportunity to lay down their challenge for World Cup glory against Iran.

Lionel Messi’s side are the overwhelming 1/8 favourites with Ladbrokes but they will be looking to put in a dominant display against a side who are a huge 22/1 for victory.

With not much value available on what should be an inevitable win for Argentina, Oliver Yew looks at three alternative bets to accompany the action at the Estádio Mineirão.

Sergio Aguero to score first @ 10/3

It’s been a lean period for Sergio Aguero in front of goal at international level since his double saw off Bosnia back in November. The Manchester City man has gone four games without a goal for Argentina since the match in Missouri but we all know about the striker’s goal exploits after he scored 28 goals in all competitions for the Citizens. It’s difficult to keep a player of his quality quiet for long and we are backing him to hit the back of the net first against Iran.

Argentina to win -2 @ 21/20

Argentina were not quite at their best in their World Cup opener against Bosnia but Lionel Messi’s side did enough to seal all three points. After blowing out some cobwebs, Alejandro Sabella’s side will now be desperate to make a statement in Brazil and Iran could be the side on the receiving end on Saturday night.

Goal Bands – 2-3 Goals @23/20

Iran, who frustrated Nigeria in their first match at the World Cup, will be set up to make life as difficult as possible for Argentina in Belo Horizonte. La Albiceleste may not have it all their own way early on but they should have enough quality to break down Carlos Quieroz’s side eventually. And in five of the last six Argentina matches two to three goals have been scored and we are backing for a repeat dose here.
