Holland v Mexico: Goals feature heavily among three best bets

Published:

The second day of the World Cup’s knockout stage gets underway with Group B winners Holland taking on Mexico, the runners up in Group A.

While many cameras could quite easily be trained on the animated Mexican coach Miguel Herrera to catch yet more dramatics on film, some would do well to remain focused on the match action, as our trio of best bets for the game predict goals aplenty:

Over 2.5 goals @ 21/20

Until their late flurry against Croatia, Mexico and goal-mouth action hadn’t been to akin to one another over the course of the tournament.

However, three goals in the final 18 minutes of play against Niko Kovac’s side saw them burst out of their scoring slumbers.

Holland have scored two or more in all three Brazilian outings so far and the pair’s last four meetings have all contained over 2.5 goals.

Holland to win @ 21/20

The Dutch seem well-set for another deep run at the World Cup, looking to ease the pain that losing 2010’s final caused them.

They’ve been a well-oiled machine for some time now and have won their last five internationals. In fact, they’ve lost just one of their last 24 games, winning 16 of those.

What’s more, they’ve triumphed in three of their four previous meetings with the Mexicans.

Second half to produce most goals @ 21/20

As a combined entity at this World Cup, Holland and Mexico have contributed 14 goals to the tournament’s tally.

Of that number only two of them – Robin van Persie’s iconic equaliser against Spain and Arjen Robben’s strike to take the lead v Australia – have been scored before half-time.
