World Cup Countdown: Brazil to lead South American domination

Published:

Approaching the final week before the summer footballing festivities can begin, Ladbrokes keep the special offers on the tournament coming thick and fast with their latest an 11/1 offering.

Following hot on the heels of the company’s 12/1 price that England go through the group stages beating each nation that dares to stand before them, there is now a chance to cash in on the South American sides fairing well.

The general chatter surrounding this World Cup in Brazil is that the South American sides, who are more used to the heat and conditions, will dominate.

Well now Ladbrokes have decided to offer customers the chance to cash in on that thinking, by going 11/1 that all five South American sides win their group.

Of the five teams participating, three are favourites to progress to the second round as group winner, so this is definitely a price worth considering with the majority of the nations involved sat at an odds-on price.

The hosts Brazil are strong 1/6 fancies in Group A and have Mexico, Croatia and Cameroon for company in what seems a banana skin-free first assignment for the Samba Boys.

In Group C, Colombia don’t enjoy quite so much favouritism, although their 4/5 price still has them on top of the Ivory Coast and Japan, with Greece much further back in the reckoning as 7/1 chances.

Agentina make up the final leg of the South American favourites tripod, with Ladbrokes giving them the same 1/6 chance as Brazil to progress as winners from Group F. Bosnia, Nigeria and Iran all oppose Lionel Messi’s side and it’s difficult to see La Albiceleste slipping up.

Without question, Chile have the toughest task in this bet as they must overcome 2010 finalists Spain AND Holland in Group B. However, with Louis van Gaal opting to take a young squad, especially in defence, and Chile fresh from holding Spain to a draw in their last encounter, there’s every reason to be hopeful.

Uruguay are the final piece to this 11/1 puzzle and will have to hope Luiz Suarez recovers from his injury in time to put Italy, England and Costa Rica to the sword if they are to win Group D.
