World Cup Poll: Can England keep their World Cup dream alive?

Published:

England’s day of World Cup destiny is nearly upon us so now is the time to ask Ladbrokes News readers – can Roy’s boys keep their World Cup dream alive with victory over Uruguay?

With both sides suffering opening defeats to Italy and Costa Rica respectively, England and Uruguay face a do or die clash in what promises to be a tense atmosphere at the Arena Corinthians in São Paulo.

Nothing but a win will really do for either side as they battle to get back on the winning track and into the second round, with England slight favourites for victory at 6/5 with Ladbrokes.

Uruguay, who are set to re-call last season’s Premier League top scorer Luis Suarez to their line-up, are 12/5 to break English hearts by taking all three points.

The draw, which has happened on three occasions between the two sides in 10 meetings, is available with Ladbrokes at odds of 23/10.

It’s Uruguay who hold the slight advantage on the head-to-head record between the two teams with four wins and Óscar Tabárez’s side also hold the only victory when the two sides have met in the World Cup.

However, the Three Lions were the victors when the two sides last met back in 2006 as goals from Peter Crouch and Joe Cole were enough to give Sven-Göran Eriksson’s England victory at Anfield.

Roy Hodgson’s side have posted two other wins against their South American opponents and will be hoping to make it a fourth in Brazil.

You’ve heard what the bookies have said and what the head-to-head records tell us but now it’s your turn to predict what will happen when England play Uruguay.
