Arsenal man one of 3 ‘cast-offs’ Southampton can accommodate

| 29.07.2014

To say Southampton are in need of a recruitment drive is putting it very politely indeed, especially if Jay Rodriguez and Morgan Schneiderlin become the sixth and seventh first-team players out of the Premier League’s busiest exit door.

Defender Dejan Lovren just arrived as Liverpool’s third Saints’ steal of the summer, while highly-promising teenage right-back Callum Chambers went the way of Luke Shaw, only this time to Arsenal not Manchester United.

It’s a cruel price to pay for such an impressive campaign for Saints fans and their new manager Ronald Koeman, with some punters unsurprisingly now hovering over the 9/2 for possible relegation.

However, all is not lost for the decimated Saints just yet, with plenty of other Premier League players seemingly deemed surplus to requirements that could begin to fill the void.

Carl Jenkinson – Arsenal

Having begrudgingly let Chambers leave for the Emirates, it makes total sense for Koeman to gazump Hull and West Ham in trying to attain another talented, youthful right-back.

Arsenal have rejected a £3m bid from the Tigers, supposedly valuing him at £5m, which is small change to Southampton after recouping so much wonga already this summer.

Anderson – Manchester United

The Brazilian may have endured injury problems during his spell at Old Trafford, but he’s a talented footballer with multiple winners’ medals who could only improve Saints’ dwindling numbers.

His all-action displays could inject some energy into the centre of the park if as expected Schneiderlin is snapped up by either Tottenham or Arsenal.

Loic Remy – QPR

Dodgy ticker or not, the Frenchman is a striker of the highest calibre and if Liverpool could have procured him for just £8.5m then newly minted Saints shouldn’t hold back.

Having lost Rickie Lambert, contributor of 28 top-flight goals over two seasons, grabbing another prolific centre-forward is essential.
