Can anyone beat Lewis Hamilton to Spoty title?

Lewis Hamilton is coasting to victory as far as this year’s Sports Personality of the Year (Spoty) prize is concerned.
That is according to Ladbrokes anyway, with the bookmaker inserting the Formula One ace as the clear favourite to land the prize at 6/4.
The pricing has as much to do with Hamilton’s blistering start to the F1 season, which saw him win his home Grand Prix at Silverstone last weekend, as it does with the rest of the country’s big names flopping.
England’s football team came home on the earliest possible flight from Brazil after Roy Hodgson’s men dished out the country’s worst ever World Cup performance – on points at least.
Britain’s Andy Murray quickly became Scotland’s Andy Murray after his meek defence of the Wimbledon crown saw him annihilated by Grigor “Baby Fed” Dimitrov.
And the England cricketing elite have gone from world beaters to humble pie eaters after a dismal summer in all formats of the game.
This then leaves Hamilton, who is widely-expected to pip team-mate Nico Rosberg to the Drivers’ Championship title, as the runaway favourite.
Recently-retired rugby star Jonny Wilkinson, who bowed out of the game with a Heineken Cup triumph, is second in the betting at 5/1, while Nottingham boxer Carl Froch looks a good-value outside punt at 8/1 after obliterating George Groves’ chin in front of a packed Wembley Stadium.
The title may look like Hamilton’s to lose but according to Ladbrokes own Jessica Bridge the race isn’t over yet.
“Betting on this year’s Spoty is like choosing between a rock and a hard place. At this stage it’s Hamilton’s to lose but we can’t rule out Wilkinson winning it by default,” she said.
