Championship relegation odds: Blackpool lead the betting

Second tier teams living in the north of England could be feeling the chill of winter sooner than we thought with three of the region’s best-loved sides already squaring up to a relegation battle of epic proportions.
With any one of Rotherham, Blackpool and Huddersfield looking in increasing danger we look at the three teams in a little more detail to see how it really is getting grim up north.
The Tangerines’ season is in danger of imploding already and we haven’t even kicked a ball in the Championship yet. Disagreements between chairman Karl Oyston and Jose Riga have resulted in a transfer stand-off take, with no new players joining the club under the new boss.
At present, Blackpool have just eight first-team players available for selection and no recognised goalkeepers to speak off. The ‘Pool’s form at the back-end of last season is concerning too with the Seasiders claiming just three winsfrom their last 29 games in the Championship.
Promoted via the playoffs under Steve Evans last term, Rotherham will be desperate to avoid a similar fate to the one that befell Yeovil Town – a team that attacked with gusto last term but failed to rack many in the way of points on the board.
An unpopular addition to the league given Evans’ reputation, the Millers are unlikely to get a welcome reception on the road. The manager, meanwhile, could struggle to adapt to life at this level, having previously excelled in Leagues One and Two.
Like Blackpool last season, Huddersfield benefitted from being in a league alongside notably poor opposition in the form of Doncaster, Barnsley and Yeovil but with the likes of Brentford and Wolves coming up they may not be so lucky this time around.
While the Terriers won two of their final three games to remain in the division, the reality is that those victories were two of only three wins Huddersfield racked up during the final 15 fixtures they played in the Championship. Unless Nahki Wells can rediscover the scoring touch that convinced Mark Robins to break the bank for his signature, the Yorkshire side could be in trouble.
