Glorious Goodwood: Rio ready to reward followers once again
Published:It was a far from punter-friendly opening day of Glorious Goodwood with six out of seven favourites beaten, including the highly-fancied pair of Beacon and Toormore.
But we’ve dusted ourselves off and we’re ready to go again in an attempt to empty the bookmaker’s satchels.
Here are our best bets for day two of the Festival.

OK, we could’ve gone with Kingman. But instead we’re going to put our necks on the line with a Nap in the opener.
MAID IN RIO just keeps answering the questions for trainer Mark Johnston. And despite another penalty we’re backing the winner of five of her last six starts to take top honours again.
It’ll be interesting to see how a few of the others get on with the testing 2m5f trip.
Longshadow was a close second over a similar distance at Pontefract back in April and has continued to progress since with three subsequent victories.
Meanwhile, Solar View has won five of his 10 starts on turf over 2m and can’t be ruled out.
A tough one to call but there are a few entrants who stand out from the crowd. Englishman performed well in similar company to grab second at Newmarket on his previous appearance.
LIBERTY JACK is another who will be expected to feature prominently with the Jim Boyle-trained charge winning comfortably in first time headgear last time out to earn a career-high mark.
Elsewhere, Mark Johnston’s Little Shambles and track veteran The Confessor are two candidates who’ll capture the attention of value hunters.
The Richard Hannon-Richard Hughes partnership has taken the past four renewals and the duo will have high hopes for Tupi in this year’s contest.
The juvenile prospect eventually got the job done quite comfortably on debut at Sandown after recovering from an uneasy start.
Aidan O’Brien brings another potential star in Highland Reel, a 12-length victor last time out at Gowran Park, a performance that has to be respected.
But if you’re looking for a progressive type at bigger odds then plump for the Mark Johnston-trained PALLISTER.
Having been stepped up in class to take the spoils at Pontefract last month he’ll now be tested over a longer trip.
And you could be handsomely rewarded if the son of Pivotal comes up with goods for his in-form stable.
