Has Lansley been Junckered?

Published:

Andrew Lansley’s chances of being the next UK EU Commissioner have receded considerably since Jean-Claude Juncker’s nomination for Commission President. He was an 8/13 favourite with Ladbrokes, but has now drifted out to Evens.

Why? Because it’s thought that, as a consolation prize for Cameron not getting his way, the UK can now demand a bigger job on the Commission as long as they have a “big hitter” to nominate.

Malcolm Rifkind is getting a mention and has sprung in at 10/1. Former Tory Leader Lord Howard is another mover, in from 20/1 to 12/1.
