Kevin Na can double up on PGA Tour wins at Greenbrier Classic

Published:

After Maryland played host last time out the PGA Tour heads due southwest for the Greenbrier Classic situated in historic West Virginia, as a strong field including FedExCup standings leader Jimmy Walker prepare to test themselves on the extended 7,287 yard Old White Course.

With three wins on the season, plus a runner-up finish on his CV at this event last year, it certainly wouldn’t be a fool who backed joint-12/1 favourite Walker for this year’s Greenbrier Classic.

The Oklahoma native, whose Tour stats have improved markedly year on year, is not so much ripping up trees as tearing them down from root-level this season, on his way to trousering close to $5m already.

Consecutive tied-fourth finishes in White Sulphur Springs in 2010/11 only increase the worthiness of his co-favouritism, though a US Open missed cut, allied with a 31st at the recent Travelers Championship deflate fellow 12/1-shot Bubba Watson’s chances.

Bubba may lead the Tour in driving distance, but the lefty’s strokes-gained putting rank a lowly 44th and his last couple of performances with his least-loftiest club suggest he’ll come up short of the cup here.

Instead, it’s one of the trio of 20/1 chances that we’ve selected for glory in the penultimate PGA Tour event before pro golf’s stateside contingent descend on the Royal Liverpool Golf club to contend The Open.

If you bang on that door for long enough, sooner or later you should gain entry. In this case the guy doing the knocking is Kevin Na – who has posted a trio of top three’s this season including a P2 at the Memorial last month.

Currently ranked 11th in prize-money banked for the season, Na is making his first reappearance since tying 12th at Pinehurst, at a course where he finished tied seventh when he last played the Greenbrier in 2012.

The South-Korean born star has made up for an injury-hit 2013 and with form like this must surely add to his solitary Tour win from 2011 soon.
