Lovren could complete triple Saints raid for hungry Liverpool

The ink has barely dried on Adam Lallana’s Liverpool contract but that hasn’t prevented Brendan Rodgers from seeking the signature of a third Southampton player.

Lallana already has one bezzy mate to sit next to in the Melwood canteen, as the midfield maestro joins fellow former Saint, Rickie Lambert at Anfield.

However, the England duo may soon have to make space for another former teammate if Rodgers is able to bring Dejan Lovren to Liverpool.

A move for the Croatian centre-back has been on the menu for some time, and seeing the conviction the 15/2 Premier League title-shots have shown in bringing Lallana and Lambert to the club, it seems highly plausible Liverpool will get their man again.

It’s well-documented that defensive frailties cost Liverpool dear in their title bid last season and much-like many Southampton players, Lovren’s displays caught the attention of top clubs.

Rodgers clearly feels the Croat’s uncompromising style can help plug any perceived leaks in the
Anfield rearguard.

If a deal can be brokered for the World Cup star, 24, then it begs the question of who may become surplus to requirements from the current crop of central defensive options.

While France international Mamadou Sakho shines in Brazil it’s unlikely to be the £18m man who gives way, so Lovren’s potential arrival would probably call time on one of Martin Skrtel or Daniel Agger’s respective Reds careers.

After all Liverpool cannot keep spending without recouping some funds to balance out the books.

Rodgers’ defensive recruitment may not stop at Lovren though, with many media sources suggesting the Northern Irishman is renewing his interest in Chelsea left-back Ryan Bertrand.
