Man City can leap towards title defence with Real Madrid man

If there was a quote to sum up Manchester City’s season following their maiden Premier League win, perhaps Margaret Thatcher’s about how standing in the middle of the road puts you at risk of being run over from both sides says it best.

After claiming the top-flight crown with Roberto Mancini, City let their rivals back in by signing uninspiring players like Scott Sinclair and Jack Rodwell, while Manchester United brought in Robin van Persie.

Having sealed the title again last season, the Citizens are in grave danger of not learning their lesson, as the likes of Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas join Chelsea.

While securing the signatures of Bacary Sagna, Fernando and Willy Cabellero are decent pieces of business, they are not on an equal footing when compared to the signings of their competitors.

However, should the latest rumours surrounding the 15/8 Premier League favourites bear fruit, then they could finally take a rather large stride towards defending their title.

Real Madrid’s Isco looks set to leave the Bernabeu just one year after his £23m move from Malaga, thanks to a couple of midfield Galacticos arriving at the club this close season.

The player’s agent expects Isco to leave Los Blancos this summer and City are thought to be the club ready to prise the 22-year-old away.

Should they manage it, creator-in-chief David Silva would be handed some real competition for his place.

The club would also be getting more than adequate back-up to call on should the senior Spaniard suffer an injury, something they struggled with last season as their higher lossrate without him in the side shows.

Signing Isco would certainly rectify the problem, as he scored 11 goals and provided seven assists in 29 all-competition starts for Real last term, and would finally sound the klaxon that City are ready to defend their crown.
