Valdes developments makes Monaco move an option for Casillas

| 15.07.2014

Iker Casillas may still be available at odds of 1/4 with Ladbrokes to remain at Real Madrid next season, but reports from Spain suggest change could soon be afoot at the Bernabeu.

According to El Confidencial, Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti has been set a deadline of August 1st to decide on the future of the Spain international and first-team rival Diego Lopez with Casillas potentially facing the chop after a poor series of displays at the World Cup.

With four different clubs currently in the running to sign the Champions League winner – including two Premier League sides – we analyse the runners and riders in this special Ladbrokes betting market.

Monaco @ 7/2

The current favourites to land the 33-year-old, Monaco have emerged as the front-runners after opting against a deal for La Roja rival Victor Valdes, after the long-time Barcelona goalkeeper failed a medical with the Principality Club.

Offering Casillas the chance to escape much of the negative media attention that has dogged him since those error-strewn performances against Holland and Chile, it’s easy to see why he may favour a spell here with the player’s recent income tax woes likely to be a thing of past should he sign.

Paris Saint-Germain @ 4/1

Monaco’s interest in Casillas has got their big-spending rivals PSG keeping a close eye on things with the Parisiens potentially open to the idea of a bid after seeing first-choice goalkeeping target Hugo Lloris sign a new five-year contract with Tottenham Hotspur.

Able to match any financial offer made by the Principality club, the Spaniard would undoubtedly be open to moving to Paris where he could add a series of Ligue 1 titles to his impressive personal trophy haul and continue to compete in the Champions League.

Manchester City @ 6/1

Joe Hart’s lacklustre showing for England at the World Cup, coupled with the arrival of Willy Caballero – an old favourite of Manuel Pellegrini – as back-up has led many to believe the Three Lions favourite could be living on borrowed time between the sticks for City.

Casillas previously worked alongside Pellegrini at Madrid and with the Chilean all too aware of his ability, provided the price is right, then the Sky Blues could be surprise contenders for the Spaniard’s services, with City able to meet any wage demands the World Cup winner may have.

Arsenal @ 8/1

The current outsiders in the market, Arsenal have been linked with a number of goalkeepers in the wake of the World Cup, including Colombia no.1 David Ospina.

But with some questioning whether Wojciech Szczęsny is the goalkeeper the Gunners need to launch a title challenge, Casillas could yet head to London – a city likely to hold more attraction to the Spaniard than Manchester. The only stumbling blocks could be the fee and wage demands.
