Arsenal v Crystal Palace: Gunners defence won’t be breached

| 15.08.2014

Tony Pulis becoming the first Premier League boss to be placed on the managerial scrapheap will no doubt dominate the headlines leading up to kick-off of Arsenal’s clash with Crystal Palace but the show must go on.

Pulis’ departure will have only strengthened the Gunners as favourites for victory with the north London club 1/4 to take all three points.

The Eagles are now out to 12/1 for victory at the Emirates Stadium with the draw available at 5/1 but with those selections not generating much appeal and Arsene Wenger’s men not providing much value, Ladbrokes News have come up with three alternative bets for this opening day clash.

Arsenal to win to nil @ 4/5

The Gunners had one of the best defensive records in the league last season, keeping 11 Premier League clean sheets in front of their home fans.

Bacary Sagna and Thomas Vermaelen, who was not a regular in the starting XI, have since departed but Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers have slotted seamlessly into life at the Emirates alongside Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Kieran Gibbs.

With Wojciech Szczęsny looking as confident as ever in between the sticks, Arsenal look like they can improve at the back and are a solid bet to open their campaign against the Eagles with a win to nil.

Arsenal to win 2-0 @ 5/1

Forget 1-0 to the Arsenal, 2-0 to the Gunners was much more apt last season with Arsene Wenger’s men winning six times by that exact scoreline in the league.

Crystal Palace were one of the teams on the receiving end of this score when they visited the Emirates Stadium last term with two goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain proving to be enough for the visitors.

With Arsenal looking in good form following their Wembley win last week, few would bet against a repeat scoreline this time around.

Santi Cazorla to score anytime @ 11/4

Plenty of Arsenal stars will be queuing up to get their name on the scoresheet against managerless Crystal Palace with the likes of Olivier Giroud, Aaron Ramsey, Yaya Sanogo and Alexis Sanchez all potential starters for the north London club.

But Wenger has plenty of options and at the prices we are backing Santi Cazorla, who has 20 Arsenal goals to his name, to follow up his Wembley goal by netting against the Eagles.

The Spanish international, who has been linked with a move away from north London, is a definite starter for the Gunners against their south London neighbours and will certainly get plenty of chances to start the campaign with a bang.
